A Letter From the Association President
It is my declaration that the Arkansas FarmHouse Fraternity is doing well and is as strong as ever. The Chapter led by President Tripp Purdy is well represented on campus and has achieved high grade point honors. The Chapter was able to obtain 10 new pledges through the fall rush.
This is one of the largest pledge classes in the past few years. Included in this years pledge class is Sam Brown. Sam is the grandson of Jerry Friddle who was initiated in 1962. Sam is the son of Tommy Brown who was initiated in 1982. Tommy has an older son, Tucker, who was initiated in 2014. Jerry also had a son, Jarrett, who was initiated in 1988. Jerry also served as your Association President and instrumental in the first major remodel of the Chapter House. Talk about a Legacy. This family defines a legacy.
The Alumni have been active as well. Funds were needed to install floor covering on the lower level of the Chapter House and a new stove/oven was needed. David Whitehead, Gerald Wilson and Ted Dorn stepped up to lead the quest for $15,000 dollars of donations needed for the two items. David and Gerald led the 50/60’s group of alumni while Ted, (your Alumni Association VP), led all others. They turned it into a contest as Ted thought he could out raise the 50/60”s group. David and Gerald won, and the Chapter was a winner also as enough money was raised to complete the flooring and buy a new stove.
Please give a shout out to our newest Board Members, Will James and Connor Brown, for representing the Arkansas Alumni at Conclave this past July. Vital changes were made and those that know Will know that he was giving voice for changes. Thank you both.
Your Alumni Association is in good financial condition as we are meeting our obligations from the rent we charge for the Chapter House. Looking 5 years down the road, I see that the interest rate on our loan will be a lot higher and we will need to lower the principal by at least $350,000 dollars in order to keep the rent affordable to the Chapter Members. All contributions to this effort are greatly appreciated.
A big thank you goes out to Gerald Wilson and his large contribution to fund a needs list given by the Chapter Members. This list contained a commercial dishwasher with associated plumbing, a refrigerator, two clothes dryers, and a weight room with several sets of equipment. Thank you, Gerald.
If you have a chance, please attend our October 22nd meeting. It is always great to catch up on what our Brothers are doing.
“The traditions, values and brotherhood continue as we know them at the Arkansas Chapter of FarmHouse Fraternity.”
