A Letter From the Association President
Hello! My name is Matt Skarshaug and I am a 2010 initiate of FarmHouse Fraternity. I live in Ames with my wife, Kora. This is my fourth year on the Association Board. On behalf of the Iowa State FarmHouse Association Board, I would like to provide a brief overview of the Board’s activities since Founder’s Day 2022.
The current board members include Duane Wolf, Ryan Zenisek, Ken Ashley, Maynard Hogberg, and Dan Johnson. Eugene Rodberg continues to do an incredible job as the Association’s Treasurer. I would also like to thank Jamie Hughet, our House Director, for her tireless work in assisting the men and caring for the day-to-day needs of the facility. We appreciate Jamie’s communication with the Board and the integrity she brings to her work.
Eugene has mentioned in his report the HVAC upgrade in the cold air dorms, which was completed over the summer. It is providing a comfortable space for the men in the warmer months and circulates fresh air year-round. Duane Wolf did a fantastic job communicating with vendors for the work. None of these updates would be possible without the funds we are able to access through the Iowa State and FarmHouse
Foundations. Thank you to all alumni, friends, and family members of FarmHouse for your generous contributions over the years to provide the best living space on campus.
Due to the nature of FarmHouse as a living space, the facility is in constant need of maintenance and both small and large upgrades. Future improvements may include window and trim repair, foundation work on the North-side of the house and replacing the flooring in the dining room. Eugene Rodberg and the Board will talk through the list and present a timeline for pursuing these projects at the Annual Meeting.
Lastly, I am still impressed with the men FarmHouse continues to recruit and develop. We have a unique tradition at Iowa State that sets a high standard of character for each member built upon the Object, our values, and the nearly 100 years of brotherhood. It is in this tradition we become Builders of Men. It is in this spirit I invite you to come back to the house for Homecoming on November 4-5. There will be a gathering on Friday night at Reiman Gardens, tailgating on Saturday, and at the Annual Meeting. We hope to see as many of you as possible at Homecoming this year!
Fraternally,
Matt Skarshaug
