The FarmHouse Leadership Institute (FLI) is a four-day program that occurs the first week of January in Kansas City, Missouri. This dynamic program equips chapter officers with the tools, resources and support needed to excel during their terms of office. The Leadership Institute provides a unique opportunity for new chapter leaders to be able to learn and gain insights as well as share ideas with other leaders from FarmHouse chapters throughout the United States and Canada. In the past this program has included separate tracks for different chapter officers. Today, the institute model is used wherein curriculum builds on central themes in leadership and officers are challenged to create positive change in their chapters. Those in attendance are also charged with developing a Blue Print for the chapter’s future.
Chapter Blue Prints made at FLI are used as a guide for the coming year including goals and specific strategies on how to improve your chapter. Attendees of FLI are expected to share these blueprints with their chapters as they return to school and work as a chapter to implement new strategies learned during the four days. During the spring semester, consultation visits focus on Blue Print goals, evaluating progress, and providing support in those areas. Those visits included individual meetings with officers, presentations, and small group discussions.
Thanks to several generous grants from the Foundation and continued support from Associations, Foundation Councils, and individual donors, the full cost of the conference is covered for participants. The only cost participants may incur is for any meals/snacks while traveling to and from Kansas City. All hotel room costs, airfare/gas reimbursements, meals and program costs are covered through generous support of donors to the Foundation.
There are occasions where the Leadership Institute runs into conflicts with the beginnings of the spring term at some universities and colleges. However, we ask members to request excused absences from their professors and provide details of the educational programming provided during FLI. Also, we expect members would complete all necessary coursework in a timely manner. We'd encourage anyone facing challenges with the start of the new school year to print off a copy of the schedule for FLI to provide to your professors and any teaching assistants for courses that you will have to miss.
This is a tremendous opportunity chapter officers cannot afford to miss! Officers will walk away with an educational experience and valuable information along with ideas from FarmHouse men across North America. In addition, the relationships and connections built at this conference will prove to be helpful throughout your year as a chapter officer and into the future.
