168. BON VOYAGE HORNSBY - WELCOME BAIZE, HADACHEK & HANSON
Last Friday marked the last day for Tim Hornsby on staff as an Educational Leadership Consultant. Hornsby, a 2009 graduate of Ohio State, is entering the Peace Corps and will begin his two years of service in Moldova, in eastern Europe. Hornsby will work in agricultural education programs and community outreach as part of his service, following an intensive summer cultural and language school. We appreciate all Tim contributed during the last year to FarmHouse chapters and our undergraduate brothers across North America - safe travels Tim!
While we are sad to see Tim depart, we are excited to welcome new faces to FH HQ this week! On Wednesday, Reed Baize (TS '09) and Tim Hadachek (KS '07) started as new Educational Leadership Consultants, in addition to summer intern, Bret Hanson (KS '08). Baize and Hadachek will spend the summer in training and working to develop educational materials for the 2010-11 academic year. Each will be assigned 16 chapters of the fraternity to work with and visit - allowing for more support and additional accountability to officer teams. The 2010-11 visit schedule will be announced at Conclave. Meanwhile, Hanson will spend the summer assisting with Conclave preparations, Fraternity marketing pieces and making donor calls for the FarmHouse Foundation. We are pleased to have these three talented brothers join the International Office team and are excited for a full house this summer in Kansas City! Welcome Reed, Tim and Bret!
169. TO BE & BECOME 2010 RECAP
Warm weather and only a few thunderstorms made for a great week of outdoor adventure May 25-27, when 22 brothers gathered at Camp Heartland, outside Kansas City for the second To Be and Become...Emerging Talent Retreat sponsored by Monsanto. The three-day educational program brought strangers together who left as friends, thanks to a variety of experiential learning activities which included GPS guided team building exercises, outdoor recreational activities and a day spent 20 feet off the ground on a high ropes course. The program, developed for men who have completed their first year of college, helped further build personal leadership skills, instill the larger FH picture of Fraternity and empower the men to take action and step up to leadership challenges upon returning to campus.
Joining the men and representing the event's sponsor, was Jim Tobin (IA '76), vice president of industry affairs of Monsanto. Tobin shared his personal FarmHouse experience and lessons his fraternity experience taught him which have carried with him through his career. To Be and Become is provided at no cost to chapters thanks to the generous financial support of Monsanto.
Chapters sending participants included: Alberta, Arkansas, Auburn, Colorado State, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa State, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi State, Nebraska, North Carolina State, North Dakota State, Purdue, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Tarleton State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Virginia Tech.
Photos from the events are available on the International Fraternity's Facebook page.
