Why I Give to FarmHouse Foundation

Bob Keefer (Illinois '51) was a long-time farm businessman, philanthropic and community leader from Polo, Illinois. He wasthe retired president of Keefer Farms, Inc., and was involved in his community with the Chamber of Commerce, 4-H, Board of Education, and his church. He and his wife Lorna, were generous to FarmHouse, taking several young chapters under their wings and providing them with guidance, support and financial assistance, as well as endowing scholarships for students in the Illinois Chapter. They were also strong supporters of the International Fraternity. Keefer also served on the Foundation Board of Trustees. Keefer died on February 18, 2002.

He was asked about his participation as a donor and Trustee of the FarmHouse Foundation, which he has supported for several years.

Why do you contribute to FarmHouse Foundation?
1. I've been involved with many charitable, religious, political, and educational fundraisers. Among all these, FarmHouse exhibits better fiscal management, no political infighting or one-upmanship, lower fund raising costs, and better results for the dollar invested. The end product, undergraduates, is consistently good.

2. My financial contribution to FarmHouse Foundation makes more of a difference than if I donated that same amount to the University of Illinois Foundation.

What does it mean to you to be a Foundation Trustee?
1. I probably covered most of this in "Why I contribute to FH Foundation". However, I need to comment on the quality of men I have served with on the Trustees. They have been outstanding individuals who have melded into successively great Boards. They will disagree, but never with vehemence. When the decision is reached, there is always unanimous
support.

2. The Foundation's program of calling selected donors has given me the opportunity to meet, via the telephone, many outstanding brothers around the nation. Most of these I would never have had the pleasure of meeting in person.

What does FarmHouse Mean to You?
The Brothers--the alums, the actives, and the pledges--they make the Fraternity great. I am privileged to be one of them!

Goal in life.
